Basket weaving (also basketry, basket making, or basketmaking) is the process of weaving unspun vegetable fibres into a basket or other similar form. People and artists who weave baskets are called basketmakers and basket weavers.

The art of basket weaving is based on a centuries-old tradition that was widespread among villages. The women weave baskets from date tree fronds (the branches that carry the fruit), also weaving in for decoration olive, willow and other local tree branches. Learning to weave is a long and arduous process, and creating the baskets requires artistry and a large set of highly developed techniques and skills.
